Endemic to many areas through europe this Silene makes a lovely carpet bearing pinkish-red flowers that sit above the lanceolate,greyish green leaves. I have had this for years in my rockery, I grow it with protection from the summer westerly sun.....it seems happy but I was just reading about it & its supposed to have protection from summer sun so perhaps a lightly shaded area of a rockery is best in very hot parts of Australia. Likes a not too dry, but well drained soil that is not rich with fertilizers.
