I have had this wonderful perennial from the alpine areas of Guatemala & Mexico for a few years now, it is rarely seen in gardens. I started growing it at first in light summer shade and it thrived, but then I tried out a plant in the sunny part of my rockery & that thrived even better. The rockery plant stays more compact and the leaves of the semi shade ones grow slightly longer. It likes good drainage and not to be overly wet in winter when dormant. In its natural habitat it grows on volcanic slopes & craters. In spring thick leaves emerge forming a rosette where the many beautiful upward facing pure white flowers appear to about 15cm high.
